9/11 - Twenty-Five Years On ...

It is now 25 years since the infamous 9-11, when the Twin Towers were destroyed by aircraft piloted by Al Qaeda operatives.

Now, five years later, we can see stronger messages: the Covid-19 Pandemic, the war in Ukraine, the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7th [Note: October 7th], then the cruelty of Israel's top politicians, and the fraternizing of China, Russia, India and North Korea into an anti-Western alternative. And, increased climate problems now affecting even the seemingly temperate countries of Europe, the UK and USA.

But has God moved into a new stage, in which God is now bringing down the United States of America?

Question: Was the election of Donald Trump as US President brought about by God in order to restore Christian Americans to their dominant position, after a period in which wokism, postmodernism and Marxism were rampant and the rest of the world was taking advantage of a weak USA? Or was it allowed by God to bring American down?

I might be wrong, but I believe it was the latter, even though so many Bible-believing Christians support him. Why do I believe this?

Donald Trump Jesus
Donald Trump is not a righteous man. Jesus is righteous.
Donald Trump's attitude is arrogant, selfish, sself-centred, bullying and warlike. (He has just renamed the Pentagon the Minstry of War!) Jesus is the Prince of Peace, and the humble servant. Jesus is not self-centred. Jesus does not bully.
Donald Trump is a classic tyrant of the mediaeval European kind, who loves to to flattered and given gifts. Jesus does not accept flattery.
Donald Trump is "foolish" in the way that Proverbs uses the term. Jesus is wise, the Wisdom of God.
Donald Trump is making America self-serving and demanding that all others serve America. Jesus serves others, and does not demand that people serve Him. Jesus did not see the nation of Israel as to be served but to serve others.
Donald Trump is unreliable in words and actions. Jesus Christ is reliable, the same yesterday, today and forever, and fulfils "Blessed is he who swears to his own hurt and does not change."
Donald Trump lets his friends down but kowtows to his enemies.
Donald Trump has such a blind trust in his own powers of negotiation that most of his negotiations go wrong. Jesus does not work by negotiation.
Donald Trump is driven by partisan hatred of the worldview of half the American people. As one person put it, each half of America now sees the other, not as opponents but as enemies - and Donald Trump seems to see them as enemies to be defeated and destroyed. Jesus treats sinners with compassion.
Donald Trump has deliberately gone against Creation Care, environmental responsibility, by suppressing environmental action and encouraging fossil fuel extraction. Jesus' resurrection restores Creation.
Donald Trump uses disdain, put-downs, sneering, scorn, derision, contempt rather than conversation that builds up. Jesus challenges with love and gives dignity to those he challenges.
Donald Trump wants to reject others. Jesus welcomes others.
Christians who support Trump tend to think narrowly in terms of warfare against what they think is evil. Jesus was
Christians who support Trump do so because of narrow issues of abortion and wokism. Jesus covers all kinds of righteousness.
Christians who support Trump do so because they are sore at having lost out to wokism. Jesus allowed Himself to seem like the loser.
Donald Trump thinks greatness is military, economic, reputational, and getting others to do your will. Jesus redefined greatness as the attitude of servanthood, and taking the lowest place.

We might say we know them by their fruit and, of course, it may be that this will be known only after some years. But the indications are not positive.

America used to be a sort of beacon to the world of the effects of the Gospel of Christ, even if only partially, but is now the opposite. Even God's people there - many of them - misrepresent God. See section on American Christians. So, as when Judah and Israel grossly misrepresented God, and God scattered and exiled them, might God be abandoning the USA, and those Christians therein?

In fact, might God be abandoning the West as a whole? When God demonstrated power and authority to Pharaoh, several times Pharaoh hardened his heart to not listen. But then we see God hardening Pharaoh's heart (to warn Pharaoh not to mess with God?). Eventually, Pharaoh's army - the super-power army of that time - was destroyed. Might God now be at the stage of hardening the hearts of the warlike American Christians, prior to their destruction?

Notes and References

Note on October 7th. A friend of mine, who for some years strongly supported Israel and Netemyahu, when the Hamas attack happened, asked God "Why has this happened?" God told him, "Israel needs to repent - repent of its dependence on military might and on its technological prowess." Interesting that this happened to a person so strongly in support of Israel! What have we seen since then? Increased dependence on military might, but one that has been so utterly cruel that most of the world has turned against Israel.
